One of the coolest things about New York is the amazing array of artistic and design-related creativity. We were lucky to connect with Eyebeam for our Theming and Site Building trainings in New York.

Drupal is at heart a content publishing platform. A way to share information as quickly and as accessibly as possible. In the U.S. right now there is no more important dialogue then that surrounding the economic recovery. It affects everyone. This is why Zivtech is proud to announce the launch of the Keystone Research Center's flagship site: http://keystoneresearch.org
As a research and policy development institute, the Keystone Research Center (KRC) conducts original research, produces reports, and promotes public dialog that addresses important economic and civic problems, and proposes new policies to help resolve those problems.
The KRC's site launch coincides with the release of their annual report The State of Working PA 2009 which found that the federal stimulus has worked to halt the economic free fall of six months ago. The bad news is that 'inflation-adjusted wages for middle-class workers have declined over the past year,' while 'the the incomes of the wealthiest Pennsylvanians have surged to new highs.' 192,000 Pennsylvanians have lost their jobs since December 2007, though the losses have decreased from 31,000 a month between February and April to 9,200 in the last three months.

Drupal Camp Philly went smashingly yesterday with over 80 participants and a great lineup of presenters.
Thanks to the organizers who did a great job putting it together and for Drexel for hosting us.
I'll post notes from my presentation as soon as I get a chance. I've also committed myself to adding some walk-thrus of creating galleries and some of my reviews of what is out there which I'll do this week.

I'm proud to announce the Views Galleriffic module which I've been working on at Drupal.org. It is a simple views plugin for the awesome Galleriffic Jquery plugin.

Textbooks are expensive. Really expensive. Well one of our clients at Zivtech is working to turn that on it's head. This week we launched Flatworld Knowldege 2 with a whole new look and set of features. It was a lot of work but we're pretty proud of the result.
Mashable has an interesting writeup about Flatworld and some other projects meant to reduce the cost of school for students.

I attended this day long series of discussions on June 23rd about how Philly can best take advantage of the Broadband Stimulus Package. Cities can start applying for stimulus $, as an announced last week by Joe Biden, starting next week.
In Philly the digital divide is a serious issue. An estimated 50% of the city does not have daily internet access (though there are no good studies on this which in itself indicates how overlooked this is). The Digital Justice Coalition and Media Mobilizing Project have done great work around bringing this issue to light as has the Digital Impact Group http://www.wirelessphiladelphia.net which is a rebranding of Wireless Philadelphia after the failure of Earthlink and Mayor Street.

UPDATE: Scooped by Technically Phily ...
If you've ever ridden SEPTA you've known of some if it's archaic practices. There are too many to get into, but one of the biggest ones, the refusal to give the public any kind of useful data may soon be changing.

People's Emergency Center had a forum yesterday (see attached) on homeless youth in Philly and Jennifer Linn, who is one of the only reporters covering this topic over the last couple of years, did a write up.
It doesn't sound like there is much 'news' here. It is the same story for the hundreds of kids in city shelters and thousands who are homeless everyday.

I'm proud to announce the launch of a new site I'm pretty happy about.
I'm more psyched about the artist, Greg is amazing, than the site itself though I think I did a pretty decent job with it. The design, layout, and functionality are all pretty simple, which is how I like to keep it. On the Drupal-end there was some custom work to get thickbox module to accept node info. Nothing to crazy but the first time I'd passed node info to jquery.
$settings['nodeInfo'][$node->title] = array(
'teaser' => $node->teaser,

It is no surprise to anyone who reads this that there is inequality in spending for public school students in PA.
But a new website, the Federal Education Budget Project, makes that data available for everyone to see and the results are pretty amazing.
See the inequality in funding per pupil in PA in 2006: http://febp.newamerica.net/k12/pa/4218990/comparison/custom
Here is a list of some of the results:
